Star French pianist, Jean-Yves Thibaudet makes a welcome return to the DFP platform as he cruises down the Nile with Saint-Saëns' musical images of an oriental bazaar. Compatriot Stéphane Denève conjures up plenty of magic from the MPO in Dukas' classic retelling of Goethe's famous story while another great literary figure, William Shakespeare, is celebrated in music from one of the great ballet scores of the last century.

Framed by a piano concerto by a 20-year-old and the final composition of an ailing 68-year-old, the Founding Father of the MPO (66 last week) and Malaysia's latest piano prodigy (aged 12) introduce us to the rarely-heard original version with orchestra of one of Chopin's most dazzling virtuoso piano showpieces, written when the composer was 20, and one of Rossini's most captivating Overtures, written at the ripe old age of 30.

But, it is also a work full of great joy and spirit. Polish conductor Krzysztof Urbański will reveal its manifest glories as well as those in the charming Little Suite by his compatriot, while the "greatly gifted" German cellist, Johannes Moser, unlocks the mystery of Schumann's enigmatic Concerto for his instrument.
