Lorenzo Gatto, violin
CLASSICAL
Part two of our journey through Mozart's five violin concertos this season, Lorenzo Gatto (debuted in 2013) returns to our stage with the Violin Concerto No. 2, a work of sunny charm from a teenage Mozart. Ravel's Tzigane follows: a wild, virtuosic rhapsody that begins with a solo violin cadenza and erupts into full gypsy fire. After the interval comes one of the 20th century’s great orchestral showpieces, Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, a work of brilliant colour, rhythmic vitality and profound expression. A programme that moves from Baroque clarity and Classical grace through French virtuosity to the full power of the modern orchestra.
